Dieline – Packaging the Pill: The History of Birth Control Packaging Design

Thanks Theresa Christine Johnson for the Dieline article Packaging the Pill: The History of Birth Control Packaging Design and the shout-out mentioning Martha Davis, Larry Lambelet at Ortho-McNeil and me in the development of the DialPak III birth control system, 20+ years ago. After spending time with many women identified as most-at-risk birth control users, we developed the first-ever refillable compact case and cartridge, as well as the instructional packaging system for pharmacies. We went on to develop easy instructions on how to properly take birth control pills. Those instructions have been in use for over 20 years and are still in use today.

A followup study by Ortho-McNeil showed that the system we developed significantly improved adherence and reduced drop-out rates. Note: Stuart Harvey Lee was also part of our design team.
