Here’s a quick guide to understanding patents. Digging through some boxes in my basement a few weeks ago I came across an infographic that I created explaining patents, a double-page spread published in a design journal way back in 1995!. It describes the components that make up a patent, along with some patent-related stories. I decided to update the infographic and re-publish it here. A few points needed revising, although many remain unchanged today.
